Car Insurance FAQs
Q: If I have 3rd party car insurance and I can prove that my car has been stolen will I still not get any pay out?
A: That’s right. 3rd party insurance is the minimum legal insurance and it
only covers damage you may do to others or their property. If your car
disappears I’m afraid you get nothing.
Q: Fully comprehensive insurance seems a lot more expensive than the other options, is it worth it?
A: Fully comprehensive car insurance covers you for any damage to your own
car which neither of the other two options do. If you want your insurance
company to pay out to repair your car if it’s involved in an accident and no
other driver’s insurance covers it then you’ll need fully comprehensive
insurance.
Q: I’m a young person who has recently passed his test but car insurance seems to be very high for me even though I haven’t been in any accidents. Why is this?
A: Unfortunately as far as insurance companies are concerned you may not have
been involved in any accidents but as a young person you are statistically more
likely to be involved in one. Try comparing quotes from some of the
specialist young person’s insurers they may have advice on how you can bring
your premium down.
Q: As a sole trader I’m thinking of getting a van but I’ve heard that van insurance is expensive, is that right?
A: It very much depends on the size of the van and how you are going to use
it. Have a look at the van insurers and get some quotes based on your
particular requirements. There will be sole trader options.
Q: Is it possible to get insurance for occasional use of a motorbike?
A: Yes it is, there are some very flexible options for motorbike owners so
study the detail of the policies on offer.
Q: I’m a woman driver, is it true that I can get cheaper car insurance because of that?
A: It does depend on your other circumstances such as any history of claims
made but in general it is true that as a female driver you can get lower
premiums from some car insurers based on your gender.
Q: Can I put my husband on my female car insurance?
A: You can put named male drivers on some female car insurance but of course
it will affect the cost of the premium and there will be stipulations that you
are the main driver.
